The Irish Amateur Boxing Association (IABA) look like they are going to have an ideal selection headache ahead of next month's Senior World Championships in China after landing four gold medals at the Multi-Nations in Albania on Wednesday.
Conor Ahern (51Kg), Eric Donovan (57Kg), Darren Sutherland (75Kg) and Ken Egan (81Kg) went all the way on an incredible night for Irish amateur boxing.
Ahern brushed aside concerns about a hand injury to beat Kosova's Muhmud Gordo 5-0, while Donovan dispatched Loanis Monokandilo from Greece on an identical scoreline.
Middleweight Sutherland stopped Albania's Oltion Kraja in round three of his final, while EU gold medallist Egan cruised through his contest against Macedonian Nas Hani winning 4-1.
Roy Sheehan (69Kg) also did well in Albania this week beating Israel's Denis Hasani before losing out to Albanian Jetmir Kuci.
Commentating on the medal haul, IABA director Gary Keegan said he was delighted with the form shown by the Irish team ahead of next month's Senior World Championships in Beijing.
He revealed: "We are absolutely thrilled with the four golds out here and Eric, Conor and Roy will have one more Multi-Nations tournament in Finland before the World Championships."
Egan and Sutherland are guaranteed their places on the World Championship team but there are places up for grabs for China.
Keegan added: "We really couldn't have asked for any more at these Multi-Nations and it looks as if we might end up having an ideal selection headache for the World Championships team."
The five-man Irish squad are in Albania under coaches Billy Walsh and Zuari Anita, physio Scott Murphy and Ferdie Whelan (R&J).
