Ulsterman Brian Magee will take on Vitali Tsypko for the vacant European super- middleweight title next month.

Magee, whose challenge to WBO super-middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe fell through last month, will take on the Ukrainian on a date yet to be decided in either Kiev or Bavaria depending on whether Tsypko's German promoter Wilfried Sauerland can secure Ukrainian television coverage.

The European title became vacant after Dane Rudy Markussen relinquished it to fight for a world title.

For former IBO super-middleweight champion Magee it is a major boost following the bitter fall-out from the 48-hour cancellation of his clash with Welshman Calzaghe.

Magee's manager Pat Magee said: "Coming after the disappointment of the Calzaghe fight this is a great opportunity for Brian.

"A win for Brian would put him back into the world's top 10."

Meanwhile, the British Boxing Board of Control will have a hearing into the circumstances surrounding the Calzaghe-Magee debacle, a fight which was never
actually sanctioned by the WBO.
