Two-time World Boxing Association heavyweight champion John "The Quietman" Ruiz (40-5-1, 28 KOs) will defend his title against Andrew Golota (38-4-1, 31 KOs) later this year.
Ruiz is the first and only world heavyweight champion of Latino heritage. Ruiz and Golota, currently rated No 5 by the WBA, fought on the same card on April 17 in New York City. Ruiz registered an 11th round TKO of Fres Oquendo, while Golota fought IBF heavyweight title-holder Chris Byrd to a draw in a fight many felt was won by the Polish strongman.
Ruiz’ manager/head trainer Norman “Stoney” Stone said: "Team Ruiz, John, myself and attorney Anthony Cardinale, have reached an agreement with Don King for Johnny to defend his title against the ‘Foul Pole,’ either on November 13 or December 4. Johnny’s ready to go against Golota. We hope John’s fight after that will be to unify the titles."
Ruiz has defeated former world champions Evander Holyfield, Hasim Rahman and Tony Tucker.
