Oscar De La Hoya has said that he will retire if he loses his rematch with Shane Mosley in Las Vegas tonight. De La Hoya will put his WBC and WBA super welterweight titles on the line at the MGM grand hotel as he tries to avenge his split-decision defeat to Mosley at welterweight level three years ago.
De La Hoya was coming off the first loss of his career, against Felix Trinidad, when he fought Mosley in June 2000. He is full of confidence going into the 12-round battle after a knock-out win over Fernando Vargas in his last major fight last year.
De La Hoya said 'I've trained so hard for this fight, like never before. If I lost the way I am now, what's the motivation? Why am I in the sport? Yes, I will retire if I lose. I don't want to retire. I want to keep on fighting and fighting hard. I'm expecting the toughest fight of my career. This is going to be a very competitive fight. He's always in shape and trains hard'.
