Lewis surrenders crown - report

Lennox Lewis has given up his International Boxing Federation heavyweight title. It is reported the Brit does not want to fight Chris Byrd, who is the IBF's mandatory challenger. The decision would leave Lewis - who once held all the versions of the heavyweight crown - with just the World Boxing Council belt.

However, giving up just one of his belts would suggest the 37-year-old plans to carry on boxing. Lewis does not believe Byrd could offer him a challenge.

His next opponent for the WBC belt is likely to be 26-year-old Ukrainian Vitali Klitschko, the World Boxing Organisation title holder. Byrd would then face former world heavyweight champion Evander Holyfield for the vacant IBF title.
