Calzaghe to face Jimenez in Cardiff

Puerto Rican Miguel Jimenez will bid to take Welshman Joe Calzaghe's WBO super-middleweight title in Cardiff on August 17. Calzaghe's original opponent David Telesco pulled out because of a contractual dispute between his two managers. Calzaghe revealed this afternoon: "The opponent is finally confirmed and I can now finish my preparations. I have seen tapes of Jimenez and he looks a real tough, hard case. He (Jimenez) has never been dropped or stopped in his career, which gives me that extra incentive to be the first to do it."

Frank Warren claimed he has been promised by Don King that Calzaghe will get to fight WBC middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins. The charismatic promoter claimed: "This is a tough fight for Joe and there can be no slip-ups. I have agreed terms with Don King for Joe to have his showdown with Bernard Hopkins, so this is a massive incentive for him to put on a superb performance."
