The British Boxing Board of Control have given Wayne McCullough permission to renew his career in Britain. The Ulsterman had been battling for two-years to get medical clearance from the board since they refused to let him fight because a cyst was found near his brain.
McCullough returned to Las Vegas after his medical suspension and went through a number of tests before receiving a licence to fight from the Nevada State Athletic Commission. The former world bantamweight champion was fully supported by promoter Frank Warren and successfully submitted his application for a British licence.
"I am delighted that Wayne has been given a licence to box in Britain. He is a world class fighter and still has the ability to be world champion. As I stated before, I would not have got involved with Wayne if I had any doubts that he was at greater risk than any other fighter", said Warren.
The WBO featherweight title will take place in September between Juan Pablo Chacon and Scott Harrison with McCullough getting a shot at the winner. He is expected to fight a 10-round contest on the supporting bill to WBO super-middleweight champion Joe Calzaghe's latest defence which is scheduled for August.
