Frank Warren today hit back at the British Boxing Board of Control for their delay in giving Wayne McCullough a licence to box in the United Kingdom. McCullough, currently banned from boxing in Britain due to a failed brain scan which revealed a cyst near his brain, has been cleared in the United States after tests and Warren insists he will eventually get the green light to fight in Britain - but is furious at the delay.
He said:"Wayne McCullough will be fighting in the UK. He'll back in August, I've no doubt. I'm totally fed up with this waiting and it's hard on Wayne who has been training so hard but I've told him to keep training because he will be fighting in August. I wouldn't get involved with Wayne if I had any doubts that he was at greater risk than any other fighter."
Warren is planning to set McCullough up for a shot at the WBO featherweight title, currently held by Juan Pablo Chacon who is expected to defend against Scotsman Scott Harrison in August. He added: "Wayne will fight the winner of Juan Pablo Chacon and Scott Harrison who should be fighting in August. Wayne's a great fighter and I still think that he can be a world champion again."
