Lewis floors Tyson after eight rounds

Lennox Lewis emphatically retained his world heavyweight title in Memphis, USA by destroying Mike Tyson in sensational fashion. The British fighter gave the former champion a boxing master class before ending the one-sided contest with a booming right hand midway through the eight round.

Tyson was bleeding from his nose and both eyes and had no answer to Lewis' stiff left jab all night. Lewis connected with the final punch in the eighth and the American crumpled to the canvas and lay flat on his back, his belated attempt to get back on his feet ending when referee Eddie Cotton waved the contest off.

Lewis was surprised by the punches Tyson was able to take before finally succumbing in the eighth. "I caught him right on the chin and he went down. I just wanted to stay to the game plan. The first round was though because I just couldn't settle down. He was still determined and tough and he could still take a heck of a punch", said Lewis.
