Irish amateur boxers claimed a stunning six gold medals at the finals of the Four Nations Tournament in Killarney on Friday night. Ten fighters had qualified for the finals of the top amateur event, and Ireland more than held their own claiming six of the available medals, double their tally from last year's finals.

Fly-weight Darren Campbell, bantamweight Damian McKenna, light-middleweight John Duddy, lightweight Andy Murray, welterweight James Moore and Sligo's Alan Reynolds took the honours in their respective divisions to crown a memorable evening for the boisterous home fans.

An otherwise perfect night was marred by narrow defeats for light-flyweight John Paul Kinsella, featherweight Stephen Ormonde, Cathal McMonagle and Kenneth Egan, who threw away a 6/3 advantage going into the fourth and final round to surrender his middleweight crown to England's Neil Perkins.
