Great day for Ireland in Killarney

The Four Nations Boxing Tournament involving Ireland, England, Scotland and Wales got underway at the Gleneagle Hotel in Killarney today. It was a great day for the Irish boxers with most qualifying for the finals tomorrow.

This afternoon, John Paul Kinsella defeated his opponent in round 4 of the Light Flyweight division while in the Bantamweight division, Damien McKenna reversed last year's defeat to Darren Edwards with a 4-1 victory. That was followed with wins for Andy Murray, Kenneth Egan, James Moore, and Alan Reynolds.

Tonight, fly-weight Darren Campbell, feather-weight Stephen Ormond and light-middleweight John Duddy won their matches, but light-welter-weight Roy Sheehan was beaten on count-back after drawing his bout 15 points apiece. Super-Heavy-weight, Cathal McMonagle, got a bye into the final while lightheavy-weight Ian Timms saw his fight stopped because of a cut eye.
