Belfast boxer Eamonn Magee has accused WBU light-welterweight champion Ricky Hatton of 'running scared'. Magee has given up his Commonwealth light-welterweight title as he continues to stalk unbeaten Manchester star Hatton but has been told a possible showdown will not now happen until July at the earliest.
Magee is instead expected to fight for an inter-continental title on May 25. which is also expected to be announced as the new date for Hatton's latest title defence. An angry Magee blasted today: "I think that Frank Warren is finding it hard to convince Hatton to fight me now. He was always saying that he wanted to fight me but now it seems he's putting it off and putting it off. I don't think he wants to know now. I think I probably frightened him with my last performance in front of his home fans. The way I knocked out Jon Thaxton, a fighter who gave him a war for 12 rounds, must have made him think again."
He added: "I've heard it's going to be July and if it is then great. If I have to wait another couple of months before I beat him up then so be it but I just hope that he doesn't keep running."
