Wayne McCullough had a successful return to the ring last night when he knocked out Alvin Brown in the second round of their fight in Las Vegas. McCullough had been out of action for 14 months following a brain scan that revealed he had a cyst on the brain, and is still unable to secure a boxing license from the BBBC which would allow him to fight in Belfast.
McCullough, the former WBC bantamweight champion, was fighting on the undercard of the Joel Casamayor - Acelino Freitas super-featherweight title fight. McCullough lost to Casamayor in the Olympic final in Barcelona in 1992.
Freitas inflicted the first defeat of his career on Casamayor with a unanimous points decision. The Brazilian extended his own unbeaten record to take the WBA and WBO versions of the title.
