Dublin's Bernard Dunne made an immediate impact on his professional debut when he beat Mexico's Rodrigo Ortiz in two rounds in Oroville California on Wednesday evening. The 20-year-old connected with a devastating punch late in the second round and his 24-year-old opponent failed to return for the third because of a broken nose.
Dunne has been training with the world-famous Freddie Roach at the Wild Card gym on Los Angeles' Sunset Boulevard since his recent move to the US. The 1999 and 2000 Irish featherweight champion made his professional bow in front of 1,300 on the David Tua v Garing Lane card, and his next fight will be in Las Vegas on the same bill as Wayne McCullough on January 12.
