Boxing: Jones hospitalised after defeat

Sheffield boxer Paul "Silkie" Jones was taken to hospital tonight after he was knocked out by Adrian Dodson in the third round of the vacant IBO super-middleweight title fight at Wembley. Dodson struck his opponent with a thunderous left hook that spun Jones right around before he fell to the canvas unconcious. He was then tended to by paramedics in the ring before being taken out on a stretcher concious to a medical room at the facility and then brought to the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, North London as a precaution.

Doctor Ashwin Patel who was ringside explained: "We had him in the medical room for 15 to 20 minutes and he was still feeling light-headed and nauseous, but he was conscious. We decided to send him to the Royal Free because they have a neurosurgery unit there as a pure precaution. They will observe him there."

Meanwhile, this victory marked Dodson's first senior title since he turned professional eight years ago. He has had numerous attempts at the WBO light-middleweight crown and the IBO middleweight title but was unsuccessful on all counts. Also tonight at Wembley, West Ham's Steve Roberts successfully defended his WBF light-middleweight title against Argentina's Sergio Acuna.
