There was better news for Irish boxing today, with the announcement that the Irish Sports Council has restored financial assistance to the Irish Amateur Boxing Association, following the IABA's recent adoption of revised anti-doping procedures.
The announcement follows a series of meetings between the council and the IABA, and will come as a timely relief to the amateur sport. The new procedures will include revised arrangements for bringing doping charges against a boxer, and for the standard of proof to be applied in such cases. A new independent disciplinary and appeals panel is also to be established by the IABA.
