Wayne McCullough will fight Hungary’s Sandor Koczak in Belfast on October 20th. It will be McCullough’s first fight in Belfast since turning pro and will take place in the Ulster Hall.
Koczak is currently the Hungarian champion and has a record of 18 fights with 9 KO’s and only one defeat and will provide a firm test for McCullough, who at 31 is running out of time. McCullough, the former WBC bantamweight champion and Olympic silver medalist, has signed a three-fight deal with Dan Goosen of America Presents which is hoped will lead to another world title fight.
He has challenged for the world title three times since losing his in 1997 and can be considered unlucky that his efforts weren’t more fruitful. He lost the first to Daniel Zaragoza on a split decision, took Naseem Hamed the distance before narrowly missing out and then lost to Erik Morales after taking him the distance for the first time in a championship fight.
