Boxing: Brodie's dream turns into a nightmare

Michael Brodie's world title dreams ended in tears as he lost out to America's Willie Jorrin on a majority decision for the WBC Super-bantamweight crown in Manchester last night.

After 12 hard-fought rounds, the man from Sacramento emerged victorious by scores of 115-112 and 116-112 with two of the judges while the third had it tied at 114-114. The decision was greeted with dismay and disbelief by Brodie's home crowd at Bowlers Leisure Centre in Trafford Park - and disgust by the 25-year-old's camp. Brodie defiantly declared "I know I'm the champion, everyone knows who the champion is. It doesn't matter who has the belt - I know I'm the champion." And promoter Barry Hearn went even further, claiming "That was one of the worst decisions ever seen in a British ring. If the WBC don't order an immediate re-match the British Boxing Board should not recognise that organisation ever again."
