Boxing: Schwer hints at fighting on

Billy Schwer refused to toll the final bell on his impressive career despite losing his WBC lightweight title challenge to Stevie Johnston at Wembley last night. Schwer, who needed eight stitches in nose and left eye injuries after the fight, said that he would go on holiday to think about his future but hinted he would fight again.

Despite his comprehensive defeat - all three judges scored it 118-110 - 30-year-old Schwer could still have a lot to offer his sport. He has indicated that a European title fight is an option. If he chooses to try and win back the European title, which he vacated to challenge Johnston, it will bring him up against former foe Oscar Cano, who he stopped in Spain in 1997.
