The Men's Super League play-off quarter-final between UCC Demons and Energywise Ireland Neptune is to be replayed, following a scoring error made by a game official.

The National League Committee (NLC) made the decision due to a scoring error made during the first quarter of last Sunday’s game at Mardyke Arena.

A two-point basket by Neptune player Tamyrik Fields in the first quarter was incorrectly allocated to UCC Demons player Scott Hannigan.

At half-time footage was reviewed by game officials, Neptune were subsequently awarded the two points for Fields’ basket, however game officials failed to deduct the additional points originally allocated to UCC Demons.

According to a Basketball Ireland statement, the NLC acknowledged that a human error had occurred. In the interest of the fairness and integrity of the sport and the competition in question, they decided that the game is to be replayed this weekend at UCC Demons home venue, with a date and time to be confirmed.

The decision by the NLC to replay the fixture cannot be appealed, as per FIBA regulations, which state: "The decision of the competent body is also considered a 'field of play rule’ decision and is not subject to further review or appeal."

The winners of this weekend’s replayed play-off quarter-final will subsequently play Garvey’s Tralee Warriors in the Super League play-off semi-finals next week, with a date and time to be finalised upon the conclusion of this weekend’s fixture between UCC Demons and Energywise Ireland Neptune.
