The International Basketball Federation has postponed this summer's European Championship for Small Countries, which was due to be held in Limerick.
The June tournament has fallen victim to the coronavirus, which has put a halt to almost all sport worldwide.
However, Ireland, along with co-hosts Cyprus, have been told they can host the rescheduled event in 2021 if they wish to do so.
Ireland was also set to compete in the Under-16, Under-18, Under-20 European Championships but these tournaments have been cancelled.
CEO of Basketball Ireland and FIBA Europe Board member Bernard O'Byrne said: "While these decisions were predictable, it is still very disappointing that they had to be made.
"The health and well-being of players, parents and supporters was the priority at all times.
"In relation to the Youth teams that we had hoped to send to the championships, I would hope that we can do something later in the year to ease their disappointment.
"We will consult everybody on this in the coming weeks through consultation with the Elite Performance Committee (EPC) at Basketball Ireland."
