Clontarf was the place to be on Saturday evening as Pyrobel Killester drove home to a 71-65 point over Singleton SuperValu Brunell in the Women’s Super League.

Speaking about their performance, women’s head coach Karl Kilbride was happy with the win, but acknowledged that they have a lot to improve on ahead of their clash with DCU Mercy next weekend.

“I’m very happy with the win, but not so happy with the performance,” Kilbride admitted. “In the first quarter we were excellent offensively but were poor defensively - we gave away far too many points.

"We turned things around though and our fitness told towards the end - we were able to pull away a bit, keep the tempo high and the pressure on. There’s a lot that needs to be improved on, we’ve a big game next weekend so we’ll have to pick up our defensive display.”

Elsewhere, Ambassador UCC Glanmire continued their winning streak, with a 66-59 point win over DCU Mercy, Maxol WIT Wildcats had the better of Meteors, while Courtyard Liffey Celtics won out over Portlaoise Panthers (69-65) in a closely-contested affair.

It was a day of mixed emotions for UCD Marian head coach Ioannis Liapakis in the Men's Super League meanwhile as, after a shaky middle two quarters, his side ran out 85-74 point winners over DCU Saints.

“It was a really difficult game,” he said. “We had a good first quarter, but they came back in the second and we missed some lay-ups and had a few turnovers which gave them the opportunity to run some fast breaks on us and score some easy baskets.

“We played some fantastic defence in the fourth and Mike Garrow and Dustan Moreira scored almost 60 points between them. We are really pleased with the result as it showed the team has great character and determination.”

Templeogue continued their impressive form to make it six wins from six against Belfast Star, Commercial.ie Éanna had the better of Radisson Blu UL Eagles, and Pyrobel Killester ran out 83-80 winners over Irish TV Tralee Warriors.

Elsewhere, UCC Demons and SSE Airtricity Moycullen had to settle the score in overtime after it finished 84-84, with Demons holding on to win 96-93, while Griffith Swords Thunder overcame KUBS.
