Aisling Sullivan says Pyrobel Killester have to reward themselves with a win in the Hula Hoops Women’s National Cup final later this month.
Killester are back in the final for the second straight year and they’ll be looking for revenge against Team Montenotte Hotel, who beat them in the 2015 decider.
“It feels absolutely brilliant,” said Sullivan after Saturday night’s semi-final win over Maxol WIT Wildcats, in which she starred.
“Last year we were delighted to get to the final, our first final, so to be back and have another chance means so much. I’m just overwhelmed! Everyone played their part and we’re just delighted.
“For years I have been trying to get to a final for years we’re hear now in two in two years. We need to finally reward ourselves and get a medal and get that trophy.“
Killester had to work hard for their 72-65 win and they trailed in the third quarter, with Sullivan leading the fight-back before the end.
“At half-time we knew it and we said that we’d have to go and we didn’t want to let them get a run, but unfortunately they led by nine at one stage,” she said.
“But we kept fighting them basket by basket and once we got that lead we knew we wouldn’t lose it.”
Cork’s Team Montenotte are back to defend their title after beating Meteors at the Mardyke Arena – venue for both semi-finals, on Saturday. They came out on top 77-61.
In the men’s semi-finals Templeogue squeezed past Killester to set up a final with GCD Swords Thunder, who beat C&S UCC Demons on Friday night
