Defending champions Team Montenotte Hotel edged past local rivals Singleton SuperValu Brunel 76-69 to book their place in the last four of the Hula Hoops Women’s National Cup.
The Glanmire side trailed at one stage in the second half but came through by seven points, with Niamh Dwyer on top form.
They’ll meet Meteors in the last four after the Dubliners produced a stunning final quarter to see off Courtyard Liffey Celtics in Leixlip.
In the other side of the draw, WIT Wildcats and Pyrobel Killester are through to the last four. Wildcats were too strong for UL Huskies while Killester were full value for a 20-point win over DCU Mercy.
“We knew it was going to be a tough game,” said Killester’s Rae Contreras. “We’re good at running a game and hitting fast-break points so we just had to stick what we’re good.”
Templeogue went through to the semi-finals of the Men’s National Cup for the first time in their history with a 79-78 win over SSE Airtricity Moycullen on Saturday.
“It was a battle all the way to the finish,” said coach Mark Keenan. A brief flare-up in the second quarter led to the ejection of Moycullen duo Dylan Cunningham and Ronan O’Sullivan and Templeogue’s Conor Grace.
UCD Marian set up a Men’s National Cup Round Two tie with GCD Swords Thunder with another win over DCU Saints. GCD Swords Thunder were 170-120 aggregate winners over Eanna.
Pyrobel Killester are back in the semi-finals after a two-year absence thanks to a 100-51 win over Belfast Star. The Dubliners needed just five minutes to erase the first-leg deficit as Jermaine Turner powered to 40 points.
