The 2012 National Cup finals commence this weekend with the senior, under-20 and under-18 titles all to be decided in both male and female codes.

Tralee Imperials are well represented, the club is contesting three National Cup finals at under-18 women's, under-20 women's and senior women's level. The achievement is all the more considerable given that the club has only been in existence for the past 11 years.

Their opening test is set to be a tough assignment as they come up against a Singleton’s SuperValu Brunell team who booked their place in the Basketball Ireland U18 Women’s National Cup final after an impressive 70-55 win in the semi-finals.

DCU Mercy stand in Tralee’s way of success at under-20 women’s level. Mercy will be looking to emulate their SuperLeague team, who will be bidding for a three-in-a-row record of National Cup titles, when they take on UL in a week’s time. Mercy stunned Waterford Wildcats in the semi-finals, while Tralee edged past Singleton’s SuperValu Brunell.

At senior level, Tralee were devastating in the last four, beating Longford Falcons 70-39. They will now meet Kingdom rivals Scruffys St Pauls in Saturday’s final.

In the senior men’s final, UCD face a daunting challenge against Dublin Thunder, who include players such as Michael Goj and Issac Westbrooks, who have played at SuperLeague level with 11890 Killester.

Templeogue will be looking to retain the under-18 men’s crown when they take on Maree. Templeogue’s last appearance at this stage resulted in an epic final which saw them beat Tolka Rovers 69-60.

Galway’s Maree will also be looking to hold onto their crown when they meet Killester in the under-20 men’s final on Saturday. The Westerners will be looking for a similar display to the one they enjoyed in the semi-final, when they hammered Moycullen 91-61.
