China's first basketball superstar Yao Ming has retired at the age of 30 after injury problems.
According to official website NBA.com, which cited league sources in a report, Yao chose to quit the Houston Rockets after struggling to recover from ankle trouble.
Yao, who stands 7ft 6ins, moved to the NBA in 2002 after launching his career with the Shanghai Sharks, and spent nine years with Houston.
The eight-time NBA All-Star finished his career with an average of 19.1 points and 9.3 rebounds.
