Basketball award winners are revealed

The domestic basketball season concluded at the weekend, with the season's individual award winners revealed at the National League Finals in Letterkenny.

It proved to be a successful weekend for treble winners UCC Demons, who dominated the end of season awards.

Colin O'Reilly was named Nivea For Men's SuperLeague Player-of-the-Year, while Douglas Leichner and Jerrah Young won the Coach-of-the-Year and Overseas Player-of-the-Year respectively.

DART Killester's Paddy Kelly found some consolation in the news that he was named Defensive Player-of-the-Year, while Matt Betley won the top points scorer award.

Meanwhile, National Cup Final 'MVP' Niamh Dwyer was named Basketball Ireland's Women's Superleague Player-of-the-Year, while DCU Mercy's Lyndsey Peat collected the defensive award.

Emmet Geoghegan is Coach-of-the-Year for his exploits with a vastly improved Tolka Rovers, while Kirsten O'Neill of UL won the overseas Player-of-the-Year award and top points scorer accolade.

Sligo All Stars made it a double in the Women's Division One with Head Coach Terry Kennedy (Coach-of-the-Year) and Kelly Johnson (Player-of-the-Year) both picking up awards, while Cian Nihill was named Men's Division One Player-of-the-Year, while Ballon's Toomas Ilves claimed the coaching award.
