Damian Sealy and Adrian Fulton have announced their intention to retire from international basketball after the current European Championships campaign. Ireland are at home to Cyprus in the Mardkye Arena UCC on Wednesday January 22nd, before they head for Sarajevo to take on Bosnia on January 25th, in the last game of this semi-final round.
Fulton earned his first International Cap in 1985 when he was 14 years old and went on to be capped at all levels for Ireland. He will finish his international career on 66 Caps, having played Senior basketball since 1990. He was awarded "Player of the Year" in 1997, has won three league titles, three Championship titles and one Cup title to date.
Sealy will conclude his international career on 35 Caps, having first played for the Irish Junior Men in 1990. Sealy earned his first senior Cap in 1991 and will go down in history for scoring the winning basket on the buzzer, to secure a victory for Ireland against Finland in the qualifying round in June 2000.
Both international heroes feel now is the right time to retire from this level of basketball, the hectic schedule demanding too much commitment. Both players hold down full time jobs, play Superleague basketball and became parents in 2002.
