The National Executive Committee will meet tonight to hear THORN Killester's appeal against the National Competitions Committee's decision to abandon the ESB Mens' League. The meeting will take place at 6:30pm but the outcome of the appeal will not be revealed until tomorrow morning. Killester are also appealing against the NCC's decision not to award them the league title in light of the abandonment of the competition due to the foot and mouth crisis.
The league had just three weeks remaining when the decision was taken following advice from the Irish Sports Council and the Department of Agriculture but although Killester were clear leaders at the time, they could still be caught if the season had carried on. However, this angered Killester, who were on course for their first league title since 1976 and a league and club double.
The NEC will hear submissions from both Killester and the NCC before they make their final decision. Both sides will then be informed of the verdict before it is released to the media and the general public.
