Sharlene Mawdsley posted a new personal best of 50.52 to take victory in the 400m at the Continental Tour Bronze Event in Savona in Italy on Wednesday.

Mawdsley, in her first individual race of the outdoor season, lowered her previous lifeline best by 0.19 seconds, set at the Paris Olympics, coming home in front of Talitha Diggs of the United States and Italy's Eloisa Coiro.

Earlier this month, Mawdsley posted an incredible split of 48.34 in the anchor leg of the women's 4x400m repechage race in Botswana, lifting the Irish quartet from third to first place and booking their place in next year's World Championships in Beijing.

Her new personal best in an individual 400m is 1.45 seconds outside of Rhasidat Adeleke's 49.07 at the 2024 European Championships.
