Rhasidat Adeleke made a return to the track on Saturday, lowering her own Irish 300m record at the Tyson Invitational in the United States.
Racing for the first time since July 2025, the 23-year-old Dubliner clocked an impressive time of 36.30 seconds to finish second at the indoor athletics meeting in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
Adeleke took 0.12 seconds off her previous national record for the event which she set in February 2024, ahead of a year that saw her win a European silver medal and finish in fourth place in the Olympics over 400m.
Running in lane four, Adeleke had Stacey‑Ann Williams on her outside to chase, closing the Jamaican athlete down in the final but just running out of track.
Williams took the win crossing the line in a personal best time of 35.92 seconds. British athlete Nicole Yeargin was third.
2025 was a difficult year for the 23-year-old ending her season early and withdrawing from her first senior championships/
Adeleke confirmed in December last year that a "hamstring strain" was the reason she withdrew from the World Championships in Tokyo.
Earlier this week another Irish record fell when Bori Akinola broke the 60m record at a World Indoor Tour Gold meeting in Belgrade, Serbia on Wednesday clocking 6.54 for the shortest sprint event.
