Sarah Lavin achieves 60m hurdles worlds standard in Paris

Sarah Lavin was in flying form on Saturday night in Paris

Sarah Lavin achieved the 60 metres Hurdles World Indoor Championship standard by finishing second to French champion Laeticia Bapte in 7.98 seconds at an indoor meeting in Paris.

Last night (Sat), Andrew Coscoran and Nick Griggs also achieved 'A' standards for the World Indoors which take place in Torun, Poland in March.

Coscoran was second in the 3000 metres at the New Balance meeting in Boston in 7 minutes 30.97, just outside his own Irish indoor record while Griggs, who turned 21 last month, clocked an Irish U23 record in finishing fourth in 7 minutes 31.79. Brian Fay was back in 10th place.

At that same meeting, Cian McPhillips was an impressive winner of the 600 metres in 1 minute 16.37 seconds well clear of the American 800 metre record holder Bryce Hoppel and former World Champion Donovan Brazier.

Also on Saturday, National Indoor 60 metre champion Bori Akinola clocked a 'B' standard for the upcoming World Indoor Championships with a 6.65 victory at a World Indoor Bronze meeting in Lyon.

At a meeting in Texas on Friday, Lauren Roy set the second fastest indoor time by an Irish woman over 200 metres indoors with a 22.89 clocking.

Only Rhasidat Adeleke has run quicker indoors over 200 metres in the Irish All Time list. That time is also a Northern Ireland record.

Earlier Roy ran a lifetime best 7.23 seconds in the 60 metres which is a World Indoor 'B' qualifying standard
