Israel Olatunde has broken his own national 100m record at the BFTTA Open at Lee Valley in London on Saturday afternoon. The Tallaght AC athlete ran 10.08 taking 0.04 off the record he set in August last year.
Olatunde finished second to Britain's Eugene Amo-Dadzie who set a new PB of 9.87 in +2.0m/s wind, perfect conditions for the event.
Amo-Dadzie matched the time set by Linford Christie in Stuttgart in 1993 with only Zharnel Hughes (9.83) running a faster time in the event for a British athlete.
Olatunde's previous national record success had also come in London as he ran the 10.12 time at the NEB Open in 2024. He becomes the first Irishman to break the 10.1 barrier for the event.
The 23-year-old did not compete in the final Irish National Championships in Santry earlier this month after withdrawing with a minor injury.
Olatunde's time is subject to ratification by World Athletics.
What just happened? 🤯🔥
