Sarah Healy remains in pole position in the women's 1500m Wanda Diamond League standings after a ninth-place finish on Saturday afternoon in Silesia.

The UCD AC athlete, who had already qualified for the final and was uncatchable at the top, will race on 28 August for the top prize of just over €25,000 in Zurich.

The pace in Poland was set by Gudaf Tsegay who went through 800m in just under two minutes. The Ethiopian world champion was well clear and came through in a blistering 3:50.62, not far off Faith Kipyegon's 3:49.11 world record set in 2023.

Healy sat in the pack and eventually finished ninth in 3:57.95, which is also an automatic qualifying mark for the European Athletics Championships next year.

Beatrice Chebet was second in 3:54.73 and Healy’s training partner and Olympic bronze medallist, Georgie Hunter-Bell took third in 3:56.00.

In the same meeting, Healy’s training partner Keely Hodgkinson set a world leading time in the women’s 800m with a 1:54.74 clocking for the two-lap event.

There was another stand-out performance in the women’s 100m hurdles. Masai Russell of the USA ran a new Diamond League record and the third fastest time in history crossing the line in 12.19.

There was another world-leading time from Femke Bol in the women's 400m hurdles. The Dutch Olympic medallist clocked 51.91 to better her own mark from the year, and also broke the meeting record.

Karsten Warholm was almost back to his best, running a new world leading time and Diamond League record of 46.28 in the men's 400m hurdles. The Norwegian beat his own season's best by over a second to take a clear win.

Noah Lyles was beaten by Olympic silver medallist Kishane Thompson in the men's 100m. Thompson managed 9.87 to Lyles' 9.90. It was a tight finish for third with Kenneth Bednarek and Christian Coleman receiving 9.96 but it was Bednarek who got the nod.
