Rhasidat Adeleke has explained her absence from this weekend's National Track and Field Championships in Santry.

The Tallaght athlete said that a recurrence of an old injury has forced her to skip the nationals, however, she aspires to return to the Morton Stadium event in 2026, having competed for the last four years.

Adeleke will be hoping to regain full fitness ahead of the upcoming World Athletics Championships, which take place in Tokyo from 13-21 September.

The 22-year-old has competed in several Diamond League races over the past few months, however, Adeleke did withdraw from the Monaco event earlier this month.

"Hey guys, unfortunately, I won't be competing at the National championships this weekend," said Adeleke, posting on social media. "I’ve attended nationals every year since 2021 & there’s nothing like competing in-front of a home crowd.

"An injury I had earlier this season has transcended into additional lingering setbacks so I'll be supporting from afar.

"I’ll hopefully be back to get some Morton magic next year. I’m forever grateful for the all the support. Best of luck to everyone racing."

Watch the National Athletics Championships on Saturday from 5pm on RTÉ2 and RTÉ Player.
