Efrem Gidey shaved almost 13 seconds off Alistair Cragg's Irish senior 10,000m record with a brilliant run at 'The Ten' meet in California in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Cragg's record had stood since 2007, but Clonliffe Harriers man Gidey lowered it in some style, crossing the line in 27:26.95.
It's another milestone for Gidey, who is making a habit of setting records.
In January, Gidey broke John Treacy's 40-year-old 10km Irish record by three seconds in Valencia, clocking 27:43. Last September, he set the half-marathon Irish distance record with a run of 60:51.
The 24-year-old fled Eritrea in northeast Africa with his family in 2016, spending six months at a refugee camp in Calais in France before arriving in Dublin in March 2017, later becoming an Irish citizen.
