Sarah Lavin has failed to advance to the women's 60m hurdles final at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China.

The 31-year-old, who finished fourth in Apeldoorn earlier this month in what was the fastest European 60m hurdles race in history, posted a time of 8.04 in her heat earlier on Sunday.

Ranked 11th overall coming into the World Championships, Lavin knew she needed a top-two placing or to be among the two fastest qualifiers across the three semi-finals to make a third World indoor final.

Lavin however was unable to improve on her heat time, hitting the first hurdle on her way to a seventh-place finish in a time of 8.14 and well outside her season's best of 7.92.

She placed 17th overall of the 24 semi-finalists.

Poland’s Pia Skrzyszowska won the heat in a time of 7.79, a time only bettered by Grace Stark (7.72 and a PB) and recent European champion Ditaji Kambundji (7.76) of Switzerland who is bidding to join her sister Mujinga in becoming a world indoor champion.
