Mark English will miss next weekend's World Athletics Indoor Championships in China due to illness.
The Donegal man added 800m bronze to his medal collection a week ago at the European Indoor Athletics Championships in the Netherlands.
English has never failed to medal when making a European final, be it indoor or outdoor.
However, the 31-year-old will not be adding to his continental haul of four bronzes and a silver in Nanjing, confirming on Sunday he won't travel.
"Unfortunately, I will not be competing at the World Indoor Championships in Nanjing, China," he wrote on Instagram.
"I'm dealing with an illness that I picked up since the European Indoors in Apeldoorn.
"Massively disappointing for me personally, but I want to wish the team and my Fast 8 Track Club teammates travelling the very best of luck."
In more positive news Nicola Tuthill has taken gold in the Under-23s women's hammer throw at the European Throwing Cup in Cyprus.
Tuthill threw 69.74m to become Ireland’s first ever gold medalist in the event.
Last summer in Paris she became Ireland's third female thrower to compete at an Olympic Games and the first since 2008.
