Rhasidat Adeleke has set down a marker for 2023 by running a new Irish indoor 200m record in Albuquerque last night.
Representing University of Texas in the Dr MLK Invitational, the 20-year old Dubliner posted a winning time of 22.52 seconds, the fastest 200m in the world this year.
The run beats her own previous Irish record of 22.85, set at the same venue last February.
@rhasidatadeleke will be one of Ireland's biggest sports stars in 2023 if this is a marker for the season. Irish indoor record & fastest 200 metres in the world this year - 22.52 seconds in the middle of winter training is remarkable & it’s quicker than her Irish outdoor record.. https://t.co/Holj5952tv

Earlier on Saturday, Adeleke ran 7.20 seconds in the 60m, finishing second behind teammate Julien Alfred who ran a new NCAA record of 7.02.
After a stellar underage career, Adeleke had a breakout year in 2022, finishing fifth in the final of the European 400m in Munich last August, posting another national record.
