Rhasidat Adeleke will line up in the European Athletics U20 Championships 100m final on Friday with her sights firmly on a medal after breezing through her semi-final in Tallinn, Estonia.
Adeleke looked extremely impressive on Thursday, winning her heat in a time of 11.37 before going on to finish first in the semi in 11.38 (the second fastest time overall).
Adeleke’s final takes place at 3.20pm Irish time. Phil Healy’s Irish 100m record of 11.28 may also come under threat should conditions remain as favourable as they were on Thursday.
Elsewhere, Cian McPhillips claimed his place in Saturday's 1500m final as he crossed the line in third to take one of the automatic qualification places in 3:48.67.
Maeve O’Neill was another to advance on a good day one for the Irish. O’Neill ran the race of her life and advances to the semi-finals of the 800m in a PB of 2:07.91. That race also takes place on Friday at 2.50pm.
