Athletics Ireland has confirmed the cancellation of the National Indoor Championships which were scheduled to take place at the National Indoor Arena on February 20th and 21st next.
The decision was taken in light of the ongoing Level 5 restrictions.
With the European Indoor Championships currently scheduled to take place from March 5-7 in Poland, Athletics Ireland have stressed that they "recognise that a number of athletes will need competition to enable qualification."
The governing body of the sport are currently examining alternative options which would allow for a Covid-19 compliant event for European Indoor qualification purposes and also for the attainment of World Ranking points towards claiming a place on the Irish team for the Olympics.
Entry to such an event will be restricted to athletes tracking towards those major events on the 2021 athletics calendar.
