Ronnie Delany reflects on a magical day for Irish sport in 1956 when the middle distance runner claimed gold at the 1500m at the Melbourne Olympics.
Delany kept close to pre-race favourite and local hero John Landy until the final lap, but finished the stronger to claim gold in a new Olympic record time.
The Wicklow native became the first Irish athlete to claim an Olympic gold since Bob Tisdall in 1932 and it would be 36 years until the next, Michael Carruth at the Barcelona Games.
The runner reflects on that incredible day in the Australian sunshine.
