Irish athlete Sophie O'Sullivan has landed a US athletics scholarship at the University of Washington.
The Australian native, and daughter of decorated Irish Olympian Sonia, is a former U17 Australian champion over 800m and 1500m.
The 18-year-old was born and raised in Australia but represented Ireland for the first time at the European U18 Championships in Hungary in 2018, where Sonia presented her daughter with her 800m silver medal.
The US college has confirmed the teenager has been included in their track and field programme.
Sonia O’Sullivan amassed 16 major athletics championships medals in her career, including a 5000m silver medal at the 2000 Sydney Olympics, World and European 5000m gold, European 10,000m gold and two World Cross Country Gold medals.

Sophie O'Sullivan is an Australian native who won the Australia U20 Championship at 800-meters. She also has Irish citizenship and won silver 🥈 at the 2019 European U18 Championships at 800m.
