The Irish team have returned home after a superb showing at the European U18 Championships in Hungary.

Ireland finished seventh on the medals table, with Sarah Healy, Rhasidat Adeleke and Sophie O'Sullivan winning three golds and a silver between them.

17-year-old Blackrock runner Healy was the star of the weekend, setting championship records as she won both the 3,000m and 1,500m titles.

"I just can't believe it," she told RTÉ Sport. "I didn't plan on doing both but I'm so happy I did."

Tallaght AC's Adeleke (15) was the 200m champion and was delighted with the reception at Dublin Airport.

"It's absolutely amazing," she said. "There are so many people here to support (us). It makes you feel really proud of your achievements."

O'Sullivan (16), daughter of Olympic medallist Sonia, won silver in the 800m.

"To make the final, I was happy, and it was amazing, I was so shocked running through that I was in that position. I was so happy to get that."

Sonia, who presented her daughter with her medal, joked that she would happily advise Sophie - "but I don't know if she wants to listen to it!".

"She's her own person."
