World 800m champion Pierre-Ambroise Bosse has ended his season early after claiming a violent attack left him with multiple injuries to his face.

Bosse clinched the gold medal at the World Championships in London earlier this month but the Frenchman is now set for a spell on the sidelines.

The 25-year-old wrote on Facebook on Thursday that he had been attacked by three people last weekend and an investigation is in progress.

"Good evening, everyone. Last Saturday I was a victim of a violent assault following a crowd movement," Bosse wrote.

"Three people brutally assaulted me. The consequences - multiple fractures to the face, many days of it (complete interruption of work) and unspeakable moral damage.

"An investigation is under way. For all these reasons, my season stops from this day! I've always loved people, I love three less today."

Bosse had been due to run at the annual DecaNation event in Angers on 9 September.
