Shona Heaslip caused a shock in taking the women's national cross country title at the Sport Ireland National Sports Campus, while Mark Christie rolled back the years to take the men's title.
22-year-old Heaslip, running out of the An Riocht club in Kerry, was first home in the women's 8,000m in a time of 28.13.
Kerry O’Flaherty (Newcastle) pipped pre-race favourite Ciara Mageean (UCD) to second place by one second, finishing in 28.23.
"Driving up I was hoping to be the first U23 athlete," Heaslip said.
"I felt good in the race but I had to check myself running alongside the other girls who I had watched on television in the summer," she added, referring to Rio Olympians O’Flaherty and Mageean.
In the men's race, Mullingar's Mark Christie denied Mick Clohisey a fourth successive national title in a time of 30.41
Clohisey's day was salvaged somewhat as he guided Raheny Shamrock to a first senior men’s team title in their history.
The north Dublin club had finished second 8 times in the last 11 years making the victory all the sweeter.
