It has been a month to remember for Ireland's Ciara Mageean as she followed up her Olympic semi-final appearance by smashing her personal best at the Diamond League meeting in Pairs.

The Ballymena runner finished ninth in the 1500m in Paris in a time of 4:01.46 in what was the fastest race of the year.

The 24-year-old's previous personal best had been 4:06.49, set in Italy last September.

The result moves Mageean up to second on the Irish all-time list, behind only the 3:58.85 set by Sonia O'Sullivan in Monaco in 1995.

Mageean has been in fine form this season, winning a bronze medal at the European Championships in Amsterdam before reaching the semi-finals at the Olympics in Rio.

The Portaferry woman finished in 11th place in her semi-final in Brazil, in a time of 4:08.07.

Scotland's Laura Muir won the Diamond League race in a time of 3:55.22 - the fastest time in the world this year - while ten of the top 11 finishers set either new personal or seasonal best marks.
