Justin Gatlin broke the ten-second mark for the first time this year in winning the men's 100 metres at Saturday's Diamond League meeting in Shanghai.

The American, twice banned for drug offences, ran 9.94 seconds, 0.03 outside the world-leading time this year set last month by Qatar's Femi Ogunode - who was second on this occasion in 10.07sec.

Gatlin's compatriot Michael Rodgers was third with St Kitts & Nevis veteran Kim Collins fourth.

Omar McLeod ran a world-leading 12.98sec, one hundredth of a second outside his personal best, to win a star-studded 110m hurdles from fellow Jamaican Hansle Parchment.

Of the American challengers, David Oliver was fifth with Aries Merritt disqualified for a false start.

Michael Tinsley won in the 400m hurdles, with fellow American Kerron Clement and Puerto Rico's Javier Culson well down the field.

France's Renaud Lavillenie was beaten into second place in the pole vault by Sam Kendricks, another American winner.

Lavillenie reached 5.83m but while Kendricks cleared 5.88m at his first attempt, the Frenchman failed twice there and once at 5.93m.

Veronica Campbell-Brown was beaten by the Ivory Coast's Murielle Ahoure in the women's 200m while Shaunae Miller of the Bahamas won the 400m in 50.45sec, with Novlene Williams-Mills back in fourth.

Ivana Spanovic won the women’s long jump, with Christabel Nettey and Tianna Bartoletta filling out the top three.

Kenyan star David Rudisha could only fifth in an 800 metre race won by compatriot Ferguson Cheruiyot Rotich.
