Mo Farah is already talking about a hat-trick of wins after retaining his Great North Run crown in Newcastle on Sunday.

The Olympic and world 5,000m and 10,000m title holder won the prestigious race for the second year in succession, heading off Stanley Biwott of Kenya in a thrilling sprint finish.

He took the lead in the final 400m and to win in a time of 59 minutes 22 seconds, which makes him the fastest British athlete over a half marathon course.

"The crowd were amazing," said Farah. "If it wasn't for them edging me towards the end it definitely would have been a different result.

"I want to come back and see if I can do a hat-trick."

Mary Keitany of Kenya retained the women's title she won in 2014.
