Mark English ran a new Irish 600m record finishing second in 1:15.71 at the Flame Games in Amsterdam.

The UCD athlete was well placed throughout the rarely run distance and was narrowly behind Kenya's Alfred Kipketer who won in 1:15.60.

English improved on his personal best of 1:16.14 which he set when finishing second in Ostrava earlier this summer behind world 800m silver medallist Adam Kszczot.

Clonliffe Harriers's Brian Gregan finished fourth in the 400m in 46.91 in chilly conditions from lane seven.

Earlier, Kilcoole's Fionnuala McCormack (nee Britton) ran a new personal best of 71mins 33secs at the Lille half marathon in France, which was won by Kenya's Peninah Arusei in 68:56.
